Heads-up for your dates
- Tiana's Bayou Adventure is closed Nov 2 to Dec 17, 2026 for refurbishment.
- Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress is closed until about late spring 2027.
- The Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island and the riverboat closed in 2025 for a new Cars-themed area.
Our take
If your crew has kids under 10, this is the one park day you protect. It is packed with rides that have no height limit, so nobody sits out. It is also the hardest park to do from off-site: the parking lot is not at the gate, so the real door-to-castle time from ChampionsGate is closer to an hour. Plan the day around that and it goes well.
Who it works for
Little ones
- Peter Pan’s Flight, "it’s a small world", Dumbo and the carousel: no height limit
- Meet Mickey at Town Square Theater and the princesses at Princess Fairytale Hall
- The Barnstormer (35 in) is the best first coaster in Orlando
- Every park has a Baby Care Center with changing tables, a nursing room and a quiet corner
Big kids
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Big Thunder Mountain (38 in)
- Space Mountain in the dark (44 in)
- Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin: a family shoot-off with no height limit
Teens
- TRON Lightcycle Run is the fastest ride here (48 in). Book it as a Lightning Lane or ride first thing.
- Space Mountain, then the fireworks from Main Street
Grandparents and a slower pace
- The train around the park, the Hall of Presidents and the Jungle Cruise are sit-down and air-conditioned
- Wheelchairs and ECVs can be rented at the entrance; book ECVs ahead on busy dates
- The fireworks are best seen from the hub grass, not Main Street, if standing is hard
Height check
My shortest rider is
| Ride | Minimum | Can ride |
|---|---|---|
| Tomorrowland Speedway | 32 in | |
| The Barnstormer | 35 in | |
| Big Thunder Mountain Railroad | 38 in | |
| Seven Dwarfs Mine Train | 38 in | |
| Tiana's Bayou Adventure | 40 in | |
| Space Mountain | 44 in | |
| TRON Lightcycle Run | 48 in |
Heights are checked with shoes on. Every ride not listed has no minimum height. Riders under 48 in at Universal need a companion 14 or older.
Game plan from ChampionsGate
- Leave ChampionsGate 75 minutes before opening. Parking, the tram and the monorail or ferry eat the rest.
- Do the rides with the longest lines in the first hour, then switch to shows in the heat of the afternoon.
- With little ones, drive back for a pool and nap break around 1 pm and come back for the fireworks. The drive makes this realistic; the parking ticket is good all day.
- Early Theme Park Entry is only for Disney hotel guests, so a vacation home family should aim for rope drop instead.
