ChampionsGate vs Staying on Disney Property for a Big Family: The Honest Math

Short answer

For 10 or more people, a whole house off site usually costs less per person and keeps everyone together. A Disney hotel buys you Early Entry and no driving. Here's the math.

This guide lives on the site of a vacation home 14 miles from Magic Kingdom, so read it knowing that. It still says it straight: sometimes the Disney hotel wins.

Short answer: for 10 or more people, a whole house off site usually costs less per person and keeps everyone together. A Disney hotel buys you Early Entry and no driving. Here's the math.

The core problem: room count

A standard Disney hotel room sleeps 4, sometimes 5. A group of 16 needs at least four rooms. Usually five, once you factor in grandparents who want their own space.

That's four or five separate bookings, separate rooms that may not be next to each other, and nowhere for everyone to hang out after the parks except a hallway.

A vacation home flips that. One house, one booking, one kitchen, one living room.

The per-person math

Here's a 7-night trip for 16 people.

OptionNightly (illustrative estimate)7 nightsPer person/night
Disney Value, 4 rooms~$600–$1,200~$4,200–$8,400~$38–$75
Disney Moderate, 4 rooms~$1,000–$1,800~$7,000–$12,600~$63–$113
Disney Deluxe, 4 rooms~$2,000–$3,600+~$14,000–$25,200+~$125–$225+
SuperVilla (whole house)$280–$1,109$1,960–$7,763~$18–$69

Disney ranges are rough illustrative estimates before tax; check Disney's site for your dates. SuperVilla is its direct nightly range; cleaning and tax show up in the booking total. Both swing a lot by season.

The house wins on price at almost every level, and wins big against Moderate and Deluxe. Against a Value resort in a slow week, it can be close. Value rooms are small, though. Four people in about 260 square feet each. SuperVilla is 4,300.

And food. With 2 full fridges and a table for 12, breakfast for 16 is a grocery bill, not a $300 restaurant check.

What you give up staying off site

These are real, and they matter.

  • Early Theme Park Entry. Disney hotel guests (and a few partner hotels) get in 30 minutes before opening. Off site, you don't. For rope-drop families, that's a real loss.
  • Free Disney transportation. Buses, the Skyliner, the monorail. Off site, you drive. Standard theme park parking is $35 a day per car (Disney's price, checked Oct 2026). Disney hotel guests park free.
  • The bubble. Some families love never leaving the Disney world. That's valid.
  • Extended evening hours at select parks for Deluxe guests.

What you gain in ChampionsGate

  • Everyone under one roof. Eight bedrooms, five baths, a living room and kitchen to come back to.
  • Your own pool and spa. Plus the Retreat Club a 3-minute walk away.
  • Stuff for rest days. The Star Wars theater, the Marvel game room, karaoke upstairs. Nobody treats a no-park day as a punishment. (The game room gets loud. Plan accordingly.)
  • A short drive. 13 miles to Hollywood Studios. 14 to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Animal Kingdom. Full table in the drive times guide.

Shanna's group loved the house so much, in her words, "that we didn't even make it to disney!!" Skipping Disney isn't the plan. But it tells you the off days won't be wasted. More on the reviews page.

When to stay on Disney property

  • You're a small group, 4 to 6 people.
  • You're doing parks every single day, rope drop to fireworks.
  • Nobody wants to drive.
  • You have Disney Vacation Club points to burn.

When the house wins

  • 10+ people, especially multiple families. See Disney with three families.
  • Babies, toddlers, or grandparents who need naps and a quiet room.
  • You want rest days between park days.
  • You want to cook, or have food allergies.

A hybrid that works

Some groups split it: 5 or 6 nights at the house, then 1 or 2 nights on property at the end for Early Entry and a big park finale. Not for everyone, but worth pricing out.
