Close, indoor, and very hands-on for ages 3-10: kids make and take home their own crayons and art. Little appeal for teens or adults.
Overview
Crayola Experience Orlando fills a large wing of The Florida Mall, about 25 minutes from ChampionsGate. It has 25-plus hands-on activities themed around Crayola crayons, markers and Silly Putty.
Highlights: Watch a live crayon-making show, then name and wrap your own crayon. Mold your own crayon in a shape (some molds cost extra). Make melted-wax art. Turn your drawing into a coloring page. Kids can also "star" in an animated color-scanning show and climb in the multi-level indoor playground. Kids leave with lots of take-home items, so bring a bag.
Who it's for: Ages about 3-10. Toddlers enjoy the play areas. Teens and adults without kids will find little to do.
Practical tips (official site): Open Sunday-Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Hours extend in holiday periods. Book online to save $3. It is entirely indoors, so it is a perfect rainy or very hot afternoon. Most families spend 2-4 hours. Mall parking is free. There is a café inside, and the Florida Mall food court is right there.
Pairs well with: A rainy day on I-Drive: SEA LIFE (#7) or WonderWorks (#18), both 15 minutes away.
Good to know
Free mall parking. Some activities (e.g. extra molds) cost extra. Kid-only appeal.
