The famous lazy-river tubing down a natural 68°F spring run is unforgettable for older kids and teens. But capacity closures, the need for online tickets and the lack of tube rentals inside add friction.
Overview
Kelly Park, in Apopka about 55 minutes north of ChampionsGate, is home to Rock Springs. The spring bubbles out of a limestone outcrop at roughly 68°F and flows through a shaded, jungle-like run. Floating down it on an inner tube is a Central Florida rite of passage.
Things to do: Tube or swim down the spring run, which takes about 30-45 minutes. Splash in the shallow "ice box" swimming areas. There are also picnic pavilions, a playground, nature trails and a campground.
Important changes (Phase 2 correction): Entry is no longer simply walk-up. Orange County now sells admission on OCPortal (ocportal.net) up to 30 days in advance. In summer and on weekends the park routinely hits capacity early, so book ahead. Tubes are not rented inside the park: buy or rent one at the shops along the road outside the gate before you enter. Tubes over a set size are not allowed, so check the county rules.
Who it's for: Older kids, teens and adults who swim confidently. The water is cold and moves gently, and there are no lifeguards along the full run. It is less suitable for toddlers.
Practical tips: Hours are 8 a.m.-8 p.m. in summer (Apr-Oct) and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. in winter (Nov-Mar), per the county page. No alcohol, glass, grills on the run or pets in the water. Bring water shoes, a waterproof phone pouch and a cooler. Go on a weekday morning for the calmest experience.
